The Mercantile Building, located at 10 E 40th Street in Manhattan, NYC, was completed in 1929. It was designed by the architectural firm Ludlow & Peabody and stands as a notable example of Art Deco architecture. The building is 48 stories tall and was once considered the world's fourth-tallest building. It was owned by Frederick William Vanderbilt, the grandson of Cornelius "The Commodore" Vanderbilt.

The Mercantile Building was the last building in New York City to use Thomas Edison's original DC power grid, switching to AC on November 14, 2007. It is situated in the Murray Hill neighborhood, between Fifth and Madison Avenues.
