1411 Broadway, located in the Garment District of Manhattan, New York City, has a rich history. Initially, it was the site of the first Metropolitan Opera House, which opened on October 22, 1883, with a performance of Faust. The opera house was known as the "Old Met" and was designed by J. Cleaveland Cady. It was nicknamed "The Yellow Brick Brewery" due to its industrial-looking exterior.

The original Metropolitan Opera House was gutted by fire on August 27, 1892, and was rebuilt along its original lines. Over the years, it underwent several renovations, including a major redesign by architects Carrère and Hastings in 1903. The opera house was praised for its acoustics and interior but faced challenges with its backstage facilities.

The Metropolitan Opera left its old house on April 16, 1966, and moved to Lincoln Center. The building was demolished in 1967 and replaced by a 42-story office tower, now known as the World Apparel Center, which was completed in 1969.
