Originally completed in 1916 as a residential hotel, it was designed by the renowned architectural firm Warren & Wetmore. The building underwent a major transformation in 1954 when it was re-clad by Emery Roth & Sons, converting it into an office building. In 2001, further renovations were made by Moed de Armas & Shannon, updating the north and south facades with light-greenish glass curtain walls. The rear facade remains clad in white brick with horizontal bands of windows. The building features a central main entrance with glass double-doors flanking a revolving door and hosts retail spaces occupied by notable businesses.

Historically, the building housed the Hoffman Auto Showroom, which served as the Mercedes dealer for Manhattan until its demolition in 2013 to make way for TD Bank. Today, 430 Park Avenue is known as the Bank of Montreal Building, reflecting its current use as a commercial office space.
