Current Largest Tenants & Newest Tenants
WeWork has leased 250,000 square feet in the Garment District from the building complex 500-512 Seventh Avenue. Other tenants of the building complex are Touro College. Engineering firm Tetra Tech has leased 60,000 square feet in the Garment District at George Comfort and Sons’ 498 Seventh Avenue building.
New Developments
Waterman Interests and USAA Real Estate are looking to sell 142 West 36th Street and 234 West 39th Street. McSam Hotel Group have sold 338 West 36th Street to Magna Hospitality Group.
History of Office Leasing in the Garment District
The Garment District has been synonymous for being the center of Manhattans fashion industry, hosting fashion labels from Calvin Klien to Marc Jacobs. As its name suggests, the Garment District originated as a hub for manufacturing fabrics, however, with the decline of manufacturing the district has experienced a rezoning to accommodate the growing demand for office space.
