History of Office Leasing in Rockefeller Center
Commissioned by the Rockefeller family the 22 acre building complex was constructed during America’s Great Depression. Surrounded by 14 Art Deco style buildings the Rockefeller Center was soon declared a New York City landmark by the 1980’s. A bronze statue of the Ancient Greek god Atlas stands in front of the center. Created by sculptor Lee Lawire and completed in 1937 the statue stands 45 feet tall and depicts the mythological character of Atlas hoisting the world on his shoulders.
