History of Educational Leasing in Times Square

Times Square began life in colonial America when Continental Army General John Morin Scott constructed his manor house on what today would be 43rd Street. By the 1870’s Times Square had become a manufacturing hub for horse drawn carriages. It was not until the turn of the century until the first billboard lights would go on to illuminate the square. By the early 1900’s the district became synonymous for its numerous theaters, music halls and hotels. With the dawn of the Great Depression Times Square’s luster vanished, as it became crime ridden and dangerous. Ravaged by crime the city took massive action during the 1990’s to restore Times Square to what it is today, a sprawling district attaining international fame.
