A number of renowned architects submitted their designs for what would become the future United Nations Headquarters. Initial plans were ambitious, with one architect proposing an entire airport to accommodate the United Nations headquarters. The current iteration was chosen, a still impressive but much less ambitious design than the submitted proposals.
